Nielsen//NetRatings Software Does Not Contain Any Spyware or Adware
Spyware is any software that covertly gathers user information without his or her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes. We do not serve pop-up or pop-under advertising on our Web site or offer services that install hidden, ad-supported programs onto user's computers.
Nielsen//NetRatings Software Will Not Affect Your Computer
Once you decide to join our research panel, you will be asked to download and install our meter software. After you reboot your machine, our software will be visible as a processing running in your task manager (NielsenOnline.exe). When active, the meter software usually requires less than 12MB of hard drive space and often less than 1% of your computer's system resources. Our meter is designed to not impact your computer experience or conflict with other software you have running on your system.
Our software will not affect your Internet browsing experience either. The software detects when a connection to the Internet is not active, and utilises that idle time to send small packets of data to the Nielsen//NetRatings collection server, which is a central computer that storesinformation for members of the Nielsen//NetRatings panel.
